Welcome to our test instance for a new Ontology Federation feature!

[edit | edit source]

This feature allows us to use Wikidata items as values (objects) in Wikibase instances. To get you started, this instance is already populated with some famous books and their relevant information. You can create items and properties without logging in. Please feel free to try with as many items as you'd like. We look forward to hearing your feedback

How to use Wikidata items

[edit | edit source]
  1. Open a any item page.
  2. Click on Add Statement at the bottom of the page (you don't need an account).
  3. Add an existing property.
  4. Start typing the item name in the next text box. You will get a drop down of local items within the Wikibase and then Wikidata items. Wikidata items will have a small box next to the item name with www.wikidata.org written in it.
  5. Choose a Wikidata item.
  6. Click save.
  7. You've now added a Wikidata item to the Wikibase instance!

Alternatively you can create new items and properties:

Create new item

Create new property

You can test the Query Service if you are familiar with writing SPARQL queries: https://query.wikibase-federation.com/

We would love to hear your thoughts!

If you would like to give us any extra feedback or input, please feel free to share your thoughts on the Talk page.

What type of feedback are we looking for?

[edit | edit source]

In the survey we ask you about how easy it is to use, how valuable would this feature be in your own instances and why would you use it or not.

This is enough for now.

However feel free to contact us or include in the survey more details of your experience:

  • How useful is this Federation feature for your workflow?
  • How clear is the process to use it?
  • Does the item display as expected?
  • How do you feel about editing items only on Wikidata?
  • What features, if any, are missing for you that might be useful in your workflow?
  • Did you encounter any errors? If yes, what were they?

Anything you find important for us to know that would make us make better decisions in the future. Every piece of feedback you share directly impacts how we evolve.

Happy Editing,

The Wikibase Teams
